7-Step Reset: Your Guide To A Fall/Winter Glow Up

7-Step Reset: Your Guide To A Fall/Winter Glow Up

As the leaves begin to change and temperatures drop, many of us feel a natural pull toward routine and renewal. There's something about fall that signals our bodies to reset and prepare for the cooler months ahead. After a summer of indulgence and relaxation, I find myself craving structure and intention. This seasonal transition provides the perfect opportunity to establish healthier habits before winter arrives!

7 Things to Do for a Fall/Winter Reset & Glow-Up

1. Move That Body Again
Get back into your workouts (or start fresh!). Pilates, yoga, or even cozy living room stretches — consistency is the real glow-up.

Movement becomes essential during this transitional period. While summer might have been filled with spontaneous activities and less structured exercise, fall offers the chance to recommit to regular workouts. The key is finding something you genuinely enjoy, whether it's Pilates, strength training, or dance. Start small with just two sessions per week, then gradually build consistency. There's no need to jump immediately into an intense six-day routine—sustainability matters more than intensity. Investing in new workout gear can provide that extra motivation boost as well. Brands like Humanity Code, Lululemon, and Alo offer stylish options that make movement feel like a treat rather than a chore.

2. Walk It Out
Commit to daily walks, even in the crisp weather. Bundle up, grab a podcast or playlist, and hit 5k steps a day.

Daily walking deserves special attention as perhaps the most underrated health practice available to us. Aiming for 8,000 steps daily provides tremendous benefits for metabolism, cardiovascular health, and mental clarity. While 10,000 steps might be the popular goal, even 5,000 consistent steps daily will yield noticeable improvements. Walking outdoors during fall allows you to experience the changing season while simultaneously supporting your health. For those living in cities not designed for pedestrians, consider breaking your walks into morning and evening sessions.

3. Hydration Over Hibernation
Colder weather = drier skin. Keep that water bottle close and infuse with lemon or berries to make it fun.

Hydration becomes even more crucial during fall and winter, precisely because we often forget about it. Without summer's heat triggering thirst, many of us unintentionally reduce our water intake. Create a hydration system that works for you—perhaps a large water bottle filled with lemon slices, a pinch of salt, and apple cider vinegar. Challenge yourself to finish it twice daily. This simple practice prevents the dry skin, fatigue, and lowered immunity that often accompany winter months.

4. Journal & Reflect
Use darker evenings to journal — brain dump your stress, list what you’re grateful for, and map out winter intentions.

For those seeking deeper reflection, morning journaling provides remarkable benefits. The "morning pages" practice from Julia Cameron's "The Artist's Way" offers a structured approach to clearing mental clutter through three pages of stream-of-consciousness writing each morning.

5. Rise Earlier
Challenge yourself to wake up 30 mins earlier — create a slow, cozy morning routine (tea, candles, meditation).

Morning routines take on new significance during fall. Consider waking just 30 minutes earlier to experience the quiet magic of pre-dawn hours. Unlike summer mornings that quickly become hot and bright, fall mornings offer a gentle transition into daylight. This time doesn't need to be filled with productivity—simply sitting with a cup of tea while gathering your thoughts can transform your day.

6. Closet Detox
Clear out what you don’t wear, donate, and make space for chic layering pieces. Bonus: style a few “go-to” winter uniforms.

Creating physical space through a closet detox aligns perfectly with fall's energy of letting go. As you transition seasonal wardrobes, take time to evaluate what truly serves you. Consider creating capsule collections for different aspects of your life—work, home, social events—to simplify daily decisions.

7. Back to Natural Challenge
Give your hair, skin, and nails a break from heat, gels, and polish. Embrace your natural glow for a reset that feels empowering.

Perhaps most revolutionary is the return to natural beauty. After summer's highlights, gel nails, and various beauty treatments, fall offers permission to embrace your authentic self. There's something powerful about reconnecting with your natural hair color, letting nails strengthen without polish, and simplifying skincare routines. This doesn't mean abandoning self-care but rather redefining it as practices that truly nourish rather than merely alter.
